The Formula 1 season returns this weekend, with Lewis Hamilton looking to break Schumacher’s record and win eight Drivers Championships!
After a three month break, Formula 1 is back and it looks set to be the most exciting yet! Last season, Lewis Hamilton won his seventh Drivers Championship, matching the record set by Michael Schumacher. This season he has signed a one year deal with Mercedes and is looking to make it eight and be the outright most successful driver of all time.
This season there are a whole host of new driver line ups, including the introduction of Mick Schumacher, son of Michael. Eight teams in total have made changes for the new season with a lot being done between teams. This means they’ll be new rivalries being made as well as some surprise wins along the way.
The first race of the season takes place this weekend in Bahrain, with lights out at 16:00 on Sunday afternoon. There are 23 races in total this season and unlike the Premier League season, this runs over a calendar year, with the last in Abu Dhabi on 12th December, unl
Driver Championship Odds
Lewis Hamilton – 1/2
You would be a brave person to bet against Hamilton, considering his track record. With seven Driver Championships under his belt so far, he has more than the other 19 drivers combined. He knows what it takes to win a championship and is driving the best car on the grid. It may take a few weeks to get to that point but Mercedes have a fantastic team and will get the best out of the car. Considering he has only been beaten to this Driver Champions once in the last seven seasons, it tells you all you need to know about potentially the greatest Formula 1 driver of all time.
Max Verstappen – 12/5
Hamiltons closest rival is the not so young now Max Verstappen. He had his first race at the age of 17 and is now 23. Last season Verstappen finished 133 points behind Hamilton, which is a long way but a few more wins for Verstappen could make it far more interesting. He is one of the most exciting drivers in the paddock and is an extremely aggressive driver. Verstappen has the self-belief that he can beat Hamilton to the title and if Red Bull can get off to a good start, whos knows!
Valterri Botas – 14/1
Even though they both race for the same team, they are arguably the biggest of rivals. Botas is seen as the number two driver at Mercedes and this has been made known publicly at times. With him having a one year contract, Botas hasn’t much to lose. He thinks he is as good as Hamilton and showed he isn’t far off finishing second last year. With it potentially being his final year at Mercedes, Botas may never get another opportunity like this to win a championship so make not accept being a number two!
Constructors Championship Odds
Mercedes – 1/3
The fourth most successful team in Formula 1 history are dominating the sport at the moment. They have won the Constructors Championship for the last seven years. This is a fantastic record, finishing a staggering 254 points ahead of Red Bull last season. However, as Toto Wolff said they have found a “hair in the soup” of the current car and unless they remove that hair soon, it won’t be as plain sailing as normal. Obviously having Hamilton in your side helps a lot Red Bull are desperate to take the Drivers Championship back from the German side.
Red Bull – 12/5
The side lead by Christian Horner have been working tirelessly over the last few years to try and beat Mercedes. They have gone through numerous drivers but now may have found the right pairing in Perez and Verstappen. Perez is highly experienced and Red Bull can guarantee on him finishing in or around the top five most weeks. Their car for the 2021 season looked fantastic in testing and sooner or later someone is going to have to beat Mercedes.
Paddy Power also have markets available on betting without Hamilton, as well as betting between drivers at each team. It’s a fantastic way of making each race really exciting in a season that already looks to be one of the best yet!
