US Open 2020 Golf Odds & Tips

Dustin Johnson

The second golfing major of the year, The US Open, is a week away and we have the latest odds as well as some tips for the huge sporting event!

The US Open finally returns next week after being 15 months since the last one. Usually, The US Open takes place in June, but due to the recent break-in sporting events, it was changed to September.

This year’s competition starts on the 17th of September and finishes on the 20th. It is taking place at the Winged Foot Golf Club in New York, which last heald The US Open in 2006 and has done five times in total.

Last year the winner of the competition was American Gary Woodland. This was his first-ever major win, and he beat Brooks Koepka by three shots finishing 13 under par.

The winner of this years competition will get $2,250,000 out of the $12,500,000 prize fund.

US Open 2020 Golf Odds & Tips

Dustin Johnson – 8/1

The current World Number One is in great form at the moment. He is also leading the way in The FedEx Cup standings, showing he has had a good year overall. This year, DJ has had seven top-ten finishes, three of which have been in the first place. His last four tournaments have been 1st, 2nd, 1st and 2nd. This is the perfect form going into next weeks major.

Johnson last won The US Open in 2016 and if he won this year, he would be the first World Number One to win it since Tiger Woods in 2008. We don’t need to tip DJ as his form does that for him. He is playing some of his best-ever golf currently and goes in with every chance next week.

Jon Rahm – 11/1

Just behind DJ in the odds and the world rankings is Jon Rahm, currently ranked number two. Rahm has had eight top tens in 2020 and two of them were wins. His most recent win was The BMW Championship where he shot a six over on the first day and came back to win finishing on four under. He beat Dustin Johnson in a playoff, with an incredible 66-foot putt. This will give him huge confidence for next week.

Rahm is yet to win a major and his best finish at The US Open was T3 last year. We like the look of Rahm for next week and would consider him a good EW bet.

Rory McIlroy – 12/1

Still looking for his first major win since 2014 is McIlroy. There is no questioning his ability he just needs to find that in time for next week. McIlory has had seven tops tens this year but has only managed to make one of them a win. This saw him go to number one earlier on in the year but is now ranked fourth.

Rory isn’t in his best form of late but is slowly improving. The US Open was his first-ever major that he won back in 2011. We think 12/1 is a good price however, it may be worth waiting until the end of the first day. You can usually tell how he’ll get on by the end of the 18.

Justin Thomas – 14/1

Thomas is currently World Number three and is having a good year. He has managed ten top-ten finishes which included three wins. Last week Justin finished second in the Tour Championship, three shots behind Dustin Johnson.

Thomas’ best finish at The US Open was T9 in 2017. We think he will do a lot better this year. He is in great form and his putting has massively improved. JT goes about his work quietly and we think he will be up there come Sunday.

Bryson DeChambeau – 16/1

The World Number eight is the world number one when it comes to driving averages. Over the break, he worked on his strength and it has helped massively with him averaging 322.1 yards per drive!

In 2020, Bryson has had nine top tens and one first place at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. A lot of this has come down to his driving distances making him player par fives like par fours. DeChambeau was really good after the break but his form has dipped recently. Bryson is a very emotional player but if he can keep his emotions in check, we think he’s a great EW bet.

Brooks Koepka – 16/1

The 2017 and 2018 winner of the US Open is struggling this year. Currently ranked number seven in the world, Koepka has only managed two top tens finishes and his best was second place. On top of this Brooks has missed five cuts this year so far!

However, Koepka can’t be overlooked! In his was three US Opens, he’s finished 2nd, 1st and 1st. The US Open seems to bring the best out in him and what a way it would be to turn his 2020 around by winning this major.

Obviously, there are other golfers in with a shout next week. Tommy Fleetwood (33/1) is playing in Portugal Masters this weekend so could be worth looking at. The new and upcoming golfer, Colin Morikawa (18/1) won his first major recently and could be looking to make it a double. Betfair has odds on all the rest of the field so be sure to look.
