Team USA have announced that Steve Stricker will captain their side at the competition in 2020.

The 12 time PGA tour winner is no stranger to the Ryder Cup. He was vice captain to Jim Furyz in 2018 and in 2016 to Davis Love III. This will be useful to him as a captain as he will have experienced losing and winning a Ryder Cup.

In terms of his playing career in the Ryder Cup he has experienced a lot. He won it in 2008, was joint top-scorer in 2010 and then in 2012 he lost all four of his matches. This type of experience will be extremely valuable especially to those who are new to the competition.

Stricker will be hoping to add to his record of being a winning captain for the USA. He captained them to victory in the Presidents Cup in 2017. He will definitely be a popular figure around the golf course next year. The 51 year old still lives in the state of Wisconsin and lives about 100 miles away from Whistling Straits Golf Course. He will be up against Padraig Harrington who will also be captaining in a Ryder Cup for the first time and be hoping to win after Europes win in 2018.

Team USA will be hoping to add there 42 victories next year. Team Europe haven’t won in America since 2012. This was when Europe came back from 10-6 down to win 14 1/2 – 13 1/2. This was dubbed as the Miracle in Medinah.
