The first trophy of the season is up for grabs this Saturday, as Leceister and Man City meet at Wembley in the Community Shield final!

The Community Shield marks the start of the football season in England. Played the weekend before the Premier League starts, it season the FA Cup winners take on the Premier League winners.

Leicester City beat Chelsea 1-0 in the FA Cup final which means they will take on Man City who finished 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Man United are the most successful side, with 21 Community Shields to their name. Arsenal are the current holders after they beat Liverpool on penalties last year. Even though it’s not a trophy that teams set out to win, it’s always one they want to win when it comes around and with fans back, it’ll be a great occasion.

Leicester vs Man City – Community Shield Preview

The two sides met twice last season, with both winning one game each. Leicester surprised everyone when they went to the Etihad and won 5-2! City returned the favour with a 2-0 win at the King Power to all but confirm the title.

City are the favourites for the game inside 90 minutes at 9/10, with Leicester priced at 11/4. Three out of the last four though have gone to extra time so the draw at 11/4 could also be a good bet, considering both sides are just getting back to full fitness.

In both sides most recent pre-season games, Leicester were able to field the stronger of the two sides. Vardy, Maddison, Tielemans and Ndidi were just some of the names present in what is arguably the Foxes strongest 11.

City on the other hand were missing De Bruyne, Sterling, Jesus, Stones, Walker and others from the squad let alone the starting lineup in their game against Blackpool on Tuesday. That being said, City do have a very big squad and with most back in training, they should still be able to field a very strong lineup.

Jamie Vardy is leading the way in the first goalscorer market at 9/2. The Leicester striker has five goals in his last eight games against City and given he is the only striker who has been playing recently, we like this bet. Mahrez at 13/2 could be someone to look at. The ex-Leicester forward is in good goal-scoring form of late, scoring in each of the three pre-season games. He should start the game and fancies himself on set-pieces.

It’s going to be a tough game to call this one. We have seen a full-strength Leicester side beat City before and in pre-season, it’s hard to call. We are backing Man City though to lift the cup at 4/9!
