Inter - AC Milan

One of Europe’s most famous fixtures returns on Sunday evening as Inter takes on AC Milan in a Serie A showdown.

For fans in Italy, every time the Milano teams meet, it’s a massive event. The San Siro has been the home of AC Milan since 1935. It was only twelve-years later when city rivals, Inter moved into the stadium. Before kick-off, the ground is a spectacular sea of red, blue & black stripes.

Over half-way through the season and it looks as if Inter may be on route for their first title since 2010. Inter trail three points behind league leaders, Juventus, who are suffering a dip in form. Antonio Conte’s men are unbeaten in their last nine matches and haven’t lost a domestic game since October 2019. That came against Juventus at the San Siro and is to date the only match Inter have lost in the league.

New signing Romelu Lukaku has been a significant force for Inter scoring sixteen goals which makes him the third top scorer in the division. The Belgian will be pleased with his stats, only Ronaldo and Immobile have netted more. During Lukaku’s first Madoninna he sealed the three-points with Inter’s second on the night. Betway has the target man to score in the derby at odds of 5/6.

Having spoken about Inter Milan’s fine-form, they’re not the only side going into this fixture with heaps of confidence. AC Milan has not lost a game in this calendar year. Winning four and drawing three has seen them claw their way back up the table and in with a fighting chance for European football next season. Stefano Pioli’s team currently sit at sixth in the league and trail fifth place, Roma by seven points. It looks unlikely that AC will close the gap anytime soon as they play Inter, Juve and then Torino. They will be fortunate to get four points out of these fixtures.

In the past decade, it has been Inter who have dominated in Milan. Of course, both teams are under the shadow of Juventus who have been crowned Italian champions a total of thirty-five times. Both Milan teams are level on titles and have lifted the trophy seventeen times each. The last time AC Milan beat Inter was at the beginning of 2016, and since then they haven’t got the better of their rivals. Nevertheless, there has been a fair share of draws when the teams meet, and it is more often than not a close encounter.

On the day I think things will go Inter Milan’s way as they seem that bit more hungry. Martinez has scored eleven this season but is suspended for Inter. So hopes will lie on Lukaku to get his team in the lead. Betway is offering odds of 19/20 for Inter to win and 5/4 for both sides to score. With Zlatan Ibrahimovic returning from injury, he will be eager for a goal against his former team.
