Frank Lampard was officially announced as the Chelsea manager today and Paddy Power has some interesting specials available!
Chelsea has now appointed club legend Frank Lampard as their new permanent manager. The move came after Maurizio Sarri left the club after just one year in charge. Lampard is now the tenth permanent manager that Chelsea has had since Abramovich took over in 2003.
Even though he isn’t experienced, he may be the perfect man for the job. He had a good year at Derby last season using a lot of youth players. Seen as though Chelsea have a transfer ban, they’re going to need to use their youth team in the first-team squad.
As this is a new appointment, Paddy Power have got some tasty looking specials available.
Chelsea not to win any of their first three Premier League matches: was 5/1 now 8/1!
This is an interesting offer. They start off their campaign away to Man United. Chelsea hasn’t beaten Man United in the Premier League since 2017, the sides have met in three times since. The last time they beat them at Old Trafford was at the end of the 2013 season. Given that they can’t buy any new players and United can as well as Solskjaer has half a season under his belt compared to Lampard, the opening game of the season could be a tough one.
Their next game is home to Leicester. Like United, they haven’t beaten them in their last three Premier League games, again this could be another tough fixture. Finally is Norwich away. Last season, Chelsea won less than half of their away games. If they were to not win the first two the pressure would be on and could the new manager handle it or would it be no wins in three games?
Lampard to leave Chelsea before May 17th – 5/6
You would expect he would be given time at Chelsea given the state the club is in. This isn’t going to be their best season and you would hope Lampard has time to implement what he wants. But this is Chelsea and this is Roman Abramovich we’re talking about. The billionaire isn’t known for being patient with managers. Since 2003 he has spent £90 million in paying off managers to leave the club. Could Lampard add a few more million to this figure?
To win a trophy in the 2019/20 season – 4/1
Chelsea got to two finals last season, the League Cup final and the Europa League final. They lost the League Cup to Man City but beat Arsenal in the Europa League thanks to a Hazard masterclass. Unfortunately, Hazard won’t be there this season and neither will any more new faces. It depends on how Lampard prioritises his games as to whether they have a good chance of a trophy. A cup run could definitely happen but without replacing Hazard the Premier League and Champions League may be a step too far this year.
Chelsea to the top London club – 9/4
Chelsea’s main competition from London next season will be Spurs and Arsenal again. Spurs are in the Champions League and after getting to last years final will give this one a real go again. Arsenal is in the Europa Leauge and will be desperate to win it and get in the Champions League next year. This could pave the way for Chelsea to get ahead of them both in the Premier League, given they aren’t in the Champions League themselves for long. Last season they did also finish as the top London club so what’s to say they couldn’t do it again?
