The European Championships are well underway, with some of the best strikers in the world present, but who will come out top goalscorer?
Finishing top goalscorer is the aim of every striker in every competition they play in. Naturally, strikers are very selfish players and would love to have one over on other players.
At the last Euro’s, Frances Antoine Griezmann came out on top with six goals, just as Harry Kane did at the 2018 World Cup. Sometimes though it’s not always the best player who will come out on top or the one you expect. As long as your team stays in the competition for long enough, you’ve got more chance than most!
To make it even more exciting, Paddy Power are offering a £1 free bet, every time your selection has a shot on target at this summer’s Euros*. Obviously, to make the most of this, you want to back someone who is likely to stay in the competition for as long as possible. Picking a player from one of the favorites is your best bet, and we’ve taken a look at a few below.
Euro 2020 Top Goalscorer Odds
Romelu Lukaku – 2/1 (3 goals)
Lukaku is an out-and-out goalscorer and has proven it with 30 goals in all competitions this season. He has two fantastic players behind him in De Bruyne and Hazard who will create a lot of chances for him throughout the tournament.
The Inter Milan striker is his countries record goalscorer. He has 63 goals in 96 games and three of which have been this summer. Belgium are one of the favorites to go all the way this summer and have at least one more game left to play. Lukaku is in fantastic form of late and will fancy himself against any defender in the competition.
Cristiano Ronaldo – 11/4 (3 goals)
You can’t talk about the favourites for the top scorer, without mentioning Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese captain is one of, if not the, best goalscorer we’ve ever seen. He has been criticised for having a poor season this year and has ended up with 36 goals which tells you all you need to know.
Like Lukaku, he is the record goalscorer for his country and has 107 goals. Portugal have a very good squad and could be deemed dark horses this summer. Ronaldo is the man for the big occasion and showed it with two goals against Hungary and one against Germany. Portugal still have one group game left and needs a point in their last game to get into the knockout stages.
Patrik Schick – 10/1 (3 goals)
The Roma striker may not win the Golden Boot but will definitely win the goal of the tournament. He opened his Euro 2020 account when he scored from 45 yards out against Scotland, lobbing McGregor in goal. Since then he has scored two more and sits level at the top.
Schick has a good scoring rate for his country, with 14 goals in 28 appearances. His side are through to the last 16 having picked up four points so far, but depending on where they finish in the group could determine how far they go in the rest of the competition.
Georginio Wijnaldum – 12/1 (3 goals)
Surprising everyone with his goalscoring contributions this summer is The Netherlands’ Georginio Wijnaldum. He has three so far and has been key in winning all three group games. He is an outsider to win the Golden Boot but given that he is joint top as it stands, he can’t be overlooked.
Wijnaldums best scoring record is when he is playing for his country. He has found the net 25 times in 78 games. The Netherlands are through to the last 16 and will fancy their chances of going further this summer.
