England take on Germany tonight in the Round of 16 at Euro 2020 and to make this huge match even more interesting, Paddy Power have some Power Prices!
England vs Germany is one of the biggest rivalries in international football. The two sides have played each other a total of 31 times, with England winning 13 and Germany 15. The rivalry goes back over many years with some very entertaining meetings between the two.
England beat Germany in the 1966 World Cup final at Wembley. Geoff Hurst scored a goal in extra time that has since been proved by the University of Oxford to have not crossed the line. England would go on to win the game 4-2, which caused uproar in Germany.
Another famous game between the two sides was in 2001. They met in Munich for a World Cup qualifier, when England famously came back from 1-0 down to win the match 5-1.
The last time they met in a knockout match was at the 2010 World Cup. Germany won the match 4-1, but this time it would be England done by a controversial decision. Lampard had a goal not given to make it 2-2 that had clearly crossed the line.
All these big matches have built up the rivalry even more between the two sides, and the game tonight is going to be no different!
England Vs Germany Power Prices
Harry Maguire To Have One Or More Headed Shots On Target (7/1)
Maguire, or Slabhead as he’s known to football fans, is an aerial threat from set-pieces. At 6’4, he will be one of the tallest players on the pitch and will fancy his chances. At the last World Cup, England scored most of their goals from free-kicks and corners, one of which was a Maguire header. Against Germany, they may see less of the ball, so getting any set-pieces they win right, is very important!
Raheem Sterling To Score First (10/1)
Despite not having his best season with Man City, he has hit the ground running this summer for England. He is the only player to score for us so far in three matches, both times being the first and only goal scorer in the game. The way England plays seems to play to Sterling’s strengths. The front three like to interchange their positions and with his pace, Sterling seems to find himself a lot of space. At 10/1, it’s a good price for the man who has been England’s best performer in front of goal this summer.
Harry Kane & Kai Havertz to have 2 or more shots on target each (12/1)
Both men have led the line for their countries so far this summer, with Havertz scoring twice but Kane yet to score. Now we are in the knockout stages, there will be a lot of pressure on both players to deliver. Kane was tipped to be the top goalscorer this summer and due to him not having one goal, we can see him taking on a few more efforts tonight. Two or more each is a big ask, but given their strikers, you would expect them to at least have one so!
Toni Kroos to score from outside the box (25/1)
The German midfielder has made it his signature piece scoring from outside the box. With the way Germany plays, it allows midfielders space on the edge of the box. Kroos tends to wait on the edge of the box in order to get these chances. Pickford isn’t the best keeper in the world and could be beaten from range.
