The Champions League is back, with some of the worlds best strikers going head to head, but who is the favourite to finish with the most goals?
The greatest club competition on the planet resumes tonight, with the world’s top players all competing. Finishing first among leading scorers in the Champions League is a major accomplishment that only the greatest players have accomplished.
Last season, Erling Haaland topped the scoring chart for the first time, but it will certainly not be his last. He recorded ten goals and broke goalscoring records along the way in doing so.
Ronaldo is currently the all-time leading scorer in the Champions League. The Manchester United striker has 137 goals on his record, and with a few more years ahead of him, you can bet he’ll surpass 150!
Champions League Top Goalscorer Odds
Robert Lewandowski (4 goals) – 5/4
Lewandowski is leading the way in the odds once again this season. The Bayern Munich striker scored just five goals in the Champions League last season, but much of it was due to him missing four games because of injury. When he played the whole season the year before, he hit 15 goals in the competition.
There’s no doubting that Lewandowski is one of the best strikers on the planet’s. He has gotten off to a fantastic start this season, having scored 13 goals in all competitions already. Bayern are among the front-runners and should do well, which means more opportunities for the Polish forward to score. He netted four in his first two matches, demonstrating that he is back to his best and it’ll take someone very good to beat him.

Sebastian Haller (5 goals) – 6/1
The striker arrived in the January transfer window last season, having had a disappointing spell at West Ham. He scored 13 goals in 23 games for Ajax last season, which is one less than he achieved throughout all of his 54 appearances for West Ham.
In this year’s Champions League, however, Haller has been on a roll. He scored four goals on his debut in the competition against Sporting Lisbon. Ajax is a side that scores a lot of goals and creates a lot of chances. Haller scored in his second game in the competition and if he keeps up the rate of scoring in every game, then who knows!
Mo Salah (3 goals) – 17/2
Salah wasn’t a favourite at the start of the season, but his recent form has put him firmly in contention. Salah already has 35 Champions League goals in his career, putting him 20th all-time on that list. Last year he scored six goals, but given how well he’s playing and Liverpool having its best players back, he will fancy his chances of bettering that this season.
Salah has three goals so far in the Champions League this season, one against AC Milan and two against Porto. Similar to Bayern, Liverpool will expect to go far, giving Salah a lot of chances to catch up to Lewandowski. At 17/2, it’s an interesting price and one that is probably only going to get shorter.

Cristiano Ronaldo (2 goals) – 17/2
Ronaldo is the competitions’ greatest ever goalscorer, with 137 goals. However, he only scored four in the competition last season, which is a low figure for him. This year he has rejoined Manchester United, which could be a match made in heaven. Ronaldo is an out and out goalscorer and this is exactly what Man United have needed of late.
United have looked shaky of late and their performances in the Champions League, haven’t been great. They have a fantastic squad and one that, if everyone is playing to their potential, they can go far in this competition. There’s a reason he has 137 goals and won the Champions League golden boot seven times, so don’t count him out. Ronaldo did exactly what United signed him for in the last game by scoring a last-minute winner against Villarreal at Old Trafford.
Erling Haaland (1 goal) – 10/1
The Dortmund striker made a spectacular debut for RB Salzburg in the Champions League, scoring a hat trick. He went on to score in five consecutive games after his debut, which earned him a transfer to Dortmund. Since then, he hasn’t stopped and is now regarded as one of the best number nines in the world.
Last season he was the Champions League’s top scorer with 10 goals, and he only made it to the quarterfinals. In doing so, he established a new record for the youngest and fastest person to score that 20 goals in the Champions League. Haaland is a fantastic player who will have a lot of goals this season. The only thing that could hinder him is how far his side go again. He has started the Champions League campaign slow but has shown before his is capable of going on a goalscoring run.
Romelu Lukaku (1 goal) – 12/1
The new Chelsea forward was brought in to score goals for the club. He has 16 goals in his Champions League career, four of which came last season for Inter Milan. He is now at a side that won the Champions League title last year and will be looking to do so again this season with the squad that Tuchel has assembled.
Romelu Lukaku has dramatically increased his finishing over the last few years, and at age 28 he is now in his peak years. He wouldn’t be the first name you’d suggest would score the most this season, but he’s certainly capable of achieving it. In Zenit St Petersburg’s 1-0 victory over Chelsea, Lukaku scored. Chelsea create a lot of chances the way that they play and for Lukaku this should mean more goals to come.
Lionel Messi (1 goal) – 14/1
You can’t discuss the Champions League leading scorer without mentioning Messi. He has six times been named the competition’s top goalscorer and has a total of 120 goals under his belt. Last season was not his finest, as he only scored five goals, but he was playing for a Barcelona team that was out of form!
This past season, he joined PSG, who are one of the favourites to win the Champions League. PSG are already a high scoring team and by adding Messi in should only mean more goals. Lionel Messi is now 34 years old, so his playing time will be restricted, but he’ll most likely play in Ligue 1. Paris Saint-Germain are hungry to win the Champions League, which is one of the reasons why they signed Lionel Messi. With their new team, they have a chance to go all the way and provide Messi with many opportunities to break his own record. In their most recent Champions League game, Messi scored a spectacular goal against Manchester City, his first for the club.
