The Champions League has started and Betfair have odds available on the winner of each of the eight groups!

This week the 2020/21 Champions League Group Stages returned and the grops are starting to take shape now. This season started late, so the first game of the competition took place on October 20th. There will be three consecutive game weeks and then the fourth game week started on 24th November. Again, there will be three consecutive game weeks with the final group stage game on December 8th.

With Pots 1 and 2 having so many strong teams in, we were guaranteed to get some big games. Pot 1 included Bayern, Sevilla, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Juventus, PSG, Porto and Zenit. This meant teams like Man United, Chelsea, Man City, Barca and Inter Milan were all available to play these teams!

If you win the group, you play a team who finished in second place in another group, so it can be hugely beneficial to finish top. If you come third then you qualify for the Europa League. This makes it hugely interesting as every point is vital when there is so much at stake!

Champions League Group Winners

Group A

Last years Champions League winners Bayern have won their opening four games and as a result, have now qualified for the next round and will finish top of the group. Atletico are now looking to get second place in the group on five points currently and are priced at 1/6 to do so. Red Bull Salzburg are two points behind Atletico and are 4/1 to qualify with Lokomotiv Moscow have just one point and are 10/1.

Group B

Real are the favourites for this group at 1/3 with Borussia Monchengladbach at 15/8 to finish top. So far this is a very close group. The German side are top on eight points, with Real just behind on seven. Surprisingly Inter are bottom of the group on two points and really need to turn it around if they want any chance of progressing. We see this being the closest group of them all, with every point mattering!

Group C

This group sees one of the more straight forward ones, with City leading the way at 1/40 to finish top. They are the second-favourites to win the whole competition and should have no trouble finishing top. So far they have won their four opening games. Porto sit in second place on nine points, only losing to Man City so far. They are 10/1 to take the top spot.

Group D

The 2019 winners are in this next group, Liverpool, and they are the favourites at 1/6. They are joined by one of the highest-scoring teams in Europe, Atalanta who are 5/1 to finish top. Liverpool are currently sitting top of the group winning three out of four games. Atalanta are the only side to beat them so far, but they don’t play each other again so we imagine Liverpool will still finish top of this group.

Group E

Chelsea were the favourites for Group E but after four games both them and Sevilla are on ten points each. Lampard’s side are still the favourites at 8/11, with Sevilla at Evens. Rennes and Krasnodar are both struggling one point each and will now be aiming to finish third for the Europa League spot. Who finishes top of this group will likely go down to when the two sides meet again later on in the competition. Sevilla are a very hard team to beat away so Chelsea may need someone else to do them a favour!

Group F

Dortmund are the current favourites to win this group at 1/3  with nine points from the opening four games. Lazio are the closest to them in the odds, priced at 9/4. They are currently second in the group on eight points and leading by one goal. When these two sides meet it will be a great game as both play fantastic attacking football. We think Dortmund will have enough quality to win this group, however.

Group G

This is the most exciting group as it has Barcelona and Juventus in it, but more importantly Messi vs Ronaldo for probably the last time. Barca are now the 1/10 favourites with Juventus at 11/2. Barca beat them 2-0 at in Turin, leaving Juventus three points behind them in the group. Juventus will have Ronaldo back for the second leg and he could be the difference! The other two sides in the group are both on one point each and shouldn’t really cause much of an issue to either side.

Group H

Last years runners up were the favourites in Group H, PSG. However, United beat them 2-1 in game week one and now sit top of the group on nine points. Solskjaers side are 4/7 to finish top with PSG at 15/8. United have looked very good in the Champions League so far and shown this by also beating RB Leipzig 5-0. It’s going to be an exciting end to this group when United take on PSG in the last game as it could determine who finishes top.

With these odds, you can bet on them individually or make them into an accumulator. If you were to back each of the favourites groups, it would be 29/1 with Betfair.
