The Champions League starts again this month and Betfair have odds available on the winner of each of the eight groups!
Last week, the draw for the 2020/21 Champions League Group Stages took place. It brought out some fantastic matchups with some huge teams across Europe.
This season started late, so the first game of the competition takes place on October 20th. There will be three consecutive game weeks and then the fourth game week will start on 24th November. Again, there will be consecutive game weeks with the final group stage game on December 8th.
With Pots 1 and 2 having so many strong teams in, we were guaranteed to get some big games. Pot 1 included Bayern, Sevilla, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Juventus, PSG, Porto and Zenit. This meant teams like Man United, Chelsea, Man City, Barca and Inter Milan were all available to play these teams!
If you win the group, you play a team who finished in second place in another group, so it can be hugely beneficial to finish top. If you come third then you qualify for the Europa League. This makes it hugely interesting as every point is vital when there is so much at stake!
Champions League Group Winners
Last years Champions League winners Bayern are obviously the favourites to top their group at 1/4. However, Atletico won’t be an easy game at all. They are at 10/3 and could be a good outsider. Atletico could hold Bayern to two draws, as they’re so hard to break down. It could then go down to how they get on against the other sides. Red Bull Salzburg are 14/1, with Lokomotiv Moscow at 35/1 and we don’t see either challenging for the top spot.
Real are the favourites for this group at 8/15 with Inter at 9/4. We see this one as being a very close group with Inter really improving over the last season. Monchengladbach (17/2) and Shaktar Donestk (14/1) make up the rest of the group. Neither side were in the competition last season and would both probably be happy with just getting Europa League.
This group sees one of the more straight forward ones, with City leading the way at 1/9 to finish top. They are the joint-favourites to win the whole competition and should have no trouble finishing top. In their group is 2004 winners Porto (7/1), 1993 winners Marseille (13/1) and Olympiakos (25/1). The better price in this group would be too look at To Qualify prices.
The 2019 winners are in this next group, Liverpool, and they are the favourites at 2/5. They are joined by one of the highest-scoring teams in Europe, Atalanta who are 7/2 to finish top. Ajax (5/1) and Midtjylland (40/1) make up the rest of the group. Liverpool should surely finish top here with Atalanta second. Ajax have lost a lot of their players from their 2019 Champions League success and Midtjylland will just be happy to be there!
Chelsea are the favourites for Group E at 11/10 but the Europa Leauge winners Sevilla are just behind them at 11/8. French side Rennes (5/1) are also in the group with Krasnodar (17/1). Chelsea has the best squad but Sevilla are very good in Europe. That being said they have a tendency to drop back into the Europa Leauge the year after winning. This will be very close but we see Chelsea topping it.
The team in this group from Pot 1 are the third favourites to top it, Zenit St Peterburg. The Russian team are at 11/2, whilst Dortmund are the favourites at 4/6 and Lazio also ahead of them at 11/5. Club Brugge are at the highest odds at 13/1. Dortmund will feel confident of topping this group, especially after keeping hold of Jadon Sancho. The one thing they won’t have is their home crowd who are fantastic in European home games.
This is the most exciting group as it has Barcelona and Juventus in it, but more importantly Messi vs Ronaldo for probably the last time. Barca are the 8/11 favourites with Juventus at EVS. Unsurprisingly Dynamo Kiev (25/1) and Ferencvarosi (80/1) aren’t given much of a chance. This is so hard to pick who will win the group but considering how Barca ended the Champions League last season, were going with Juve!
Last years runners up are favourites in Group H, PSG. They are at 4/6 finish first, with Man United in the group also at 13/5. RB Leipzig are at 4/1 with Istanbul Basaksehir at 20/1. PSG should find themselves top of Group H come to the end of December and then the second place we think will go to United. Leipzig will be a tough team to beat but their frontman Timo Werner left them in the summer for Chelsea.
With these odds, you can bet on them individually or make them into an accumulator. If you were to back each of the favourites groups, it would be 29/1 with Betfair.
